Neckties

Not all neckties are the same. I am not talking about the different patterns on a tie either, how some have stripes and some are solids. If every tie in the world suddenly became blank, there would still be a difference between your everyday neckties and these more luxurious ties.

Seven Fold Ties

The most famous of these ties is the seven fold tie. They sell at expensive stores anywhere from $100 to $250 with brand names such as Talbott, Carlo Franco, Burberry, and Kiton. What makes these ties more interesting than your every day tie is in the folds?

Double-Four Fold Ties

A similar type of tie is the six-fold tie. The six-fold tie is also known as double-four fold tie. This is a marketing term to make it sound like it has more folds. After all, what sounds better than a tie with seven folds? Eight folds of course. Some people do prefer the six fold tie to the seven fold. There is more silk at the tips and tends to keep its intended shape better. Bvlgari makes a nice six-fold tie.

Seven Fold Necktie

The tie is constructed completely out of silk. The true seven fold tie is cut from a single piece of silk and asymmetrically folded seven times onto itself. The traditional seven-fold is untipped and unlined.

Ordinary Necktie

Your everyday tie has silk in the front and is sewn onto a synthetic backing. To give it more weight, an interlining is placed inside between the silk and the backing.

Six Fold (double-four) Necktie

An alteration of the seven-fold tie is the six-fold (aka double-four fold) necktie. This construction method is more symmetrical than the true seven fold. It also has a interlining which gives it a little more weight and is self tipped.

From the front, each of these neckties looks the same, but the construction and quality is very different and only appreciated by a few.
